I know I would not be alone in saying if you have never been to Art in Action you must find time to go, add it to that wishlist or better still go this year! Whether a day out or making a weekend of it, you will not be disappointed. Personally I have never seen so many arts and crafts being demonstrated in one place alongwith the opportunity to have a go yourself (Practical Classes). The setting of Waterperry Gardens near Oxford is a fab place to visit without the added bonus of Art in Action.
The event has been held for the last 36 years and its own literature describes the event as “the public comes to Art in Action, not just to see works of art, but to see the art of creating art. The idea is to see what’s done, while it is being done; to learn how it is done and why it is done.”
There are around 200 artists covering everything from ceramics to painting, sculpture to calligraphy, illustration to jewellery, printmaking to textiles and yes there is some woodworking in there too. Simon Clements who has exhibited at the European Woodworking Show will be there this year (his work is pictured above) and Mike Abbott will be demonstrating his distinct green-wood chairs.
